It is well established that mutual aid and peer support activities represent a low-cost supplement to formal mental heath services, and that these supports provide significant benefits to both individuals and to the mental health system.
The Schizophrenia Society of Nova Scotia encourages and facilitates support to individuals living with schizophrenia and psychosis, as well as their families, friends, and co-workers. There are no restrictions to the scope of this activity. It covers the full spectrum of emergency care, financial support, housing and living conditions, specialist healthcare and dental care, stress management, elimination of stigma, and all conditions that may be experienced by those coping with these mental health disorders.
The Schizophrenia Society of Nova Scotia is affiliated with the chapters and support groups illustrated on the map below. For the complete list of our chapters and support groups, with meeting times and locations, please click here (downloads a PDF).
